Home Energy Saving Resources for Renters and Homeowners
Home Energy Conservation Upgrades/Improvements
- EmPower+ Information and Online Application: EmPower+ helps low- and moderate-income households save energy and money toward energy improvements made to their property. The program is open to income-eligible owners and renters of 1-4 family households.
- NYSERDA Home Energy Audit: An energy audit provides you with a top-to-bottom look at where your home is wasting energy and flags any potential health or safety issues. All New York homeowners of one-to-four family homes can get a no-cost energy assessment.
- NYSERDA Home Energy Efficiency Programs: Low to moderate income households may be eligible for additional home energy efficiency services at reduced or no cost. Follow the link to search programs and contractors in your area.
Heating & Cooling Assistance
- HEAP Regular or Emergency Benefit: Can help eligible households heat and cool their homes. HEAP benefits may be able to help if you heat your home with: Electricity; Natural Gas; Oil; Propane; Wood/Wood Pellets; Keronsene; or Corn.

HEAP Heating Equipment Repair or Replacement Benefit: Eligible homeowners may help get assistance to repair or replace a furnace, boiler and other direct heating equipment necessary to keep the home's primary heating source working.

HEAP Clean and Tune: Offers the cleaning of primary heating equipment to eligible households, but may also include chimney cleaning, minor repairs, installation of carbon monoxide detectors or programmable thermostats, if needed, to allow for the safe, proper and efficient operation of the heating equipment.

HEAP Cooling Benefit: If eligible, you may receive one Cooling Assistance benefit per applicant household for the purchase and installation of an air conditioner or a fan to help your home stay cool. The 2023-2024 Cooling Assistance is scheduled to open on April 15, 2024.
