Future Goals

Community Action Agencies across the nation respond to local needs by delivering services and programs that empower individuals, strengthen families, and build resilient communities. In spring 2025, more than 100 community partners convened for Opportunities for Otsego Community Needs Forum to identify needs within Otsego County and to generate solutions to help families get ahead. Insights from the forum and input from community members helped shape OFO’s 2025 Community Needs Assessment and informed agency strategic planning under our Results-Oriented Management and Accountability (ROMA) framework.

Grounded in the Community Needs Assessment, the Board of Directors identified the following strategic initiatives to guide the agency's priorities, investments, and efforts to advance its mission and respond to community needs.

  • Increase the number of affordable child care slots across Otsego County and support community providers to expand capacity during traditional hours, early morning, afterschool and summer care.
  • Create training programs within OFO to develop the workforce, with focus on early childhood education and energy trades.
  • Address housing insecurity and homelessness through rental counseling, Fair Housing advocacy, prevention supports, and system advocacy.
  • Offer solutions for worker commute and transportation needs through enhanced partnerships, system advocacy, and resource acquisition.
  • Advance community awareness of the causes and conditions of poverty.

Achieving these goals will require collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment from our Board, staff, partners, funders, volunteers, and community members. Together, we can build stronger pathways to opportunity, expand access to essential resources, and create lasting change for individuals, families, and communities throughout Otsego County.
