COVID-19 Agency Updates

Opportunities for Otsego is operating as follows:  

Energy Services - Weatherization and Energy Opportunities - have slowly resumed activities with approved plans for disinfecting, social distancing, and safety precautions. 

Violence Intervention Program emergency shelter services for victims of domestic violence is open and fully operational. VIP will continue to provide virtual services to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and violent crimes. Assistance may be obtained by calling the 24-hour Crisis Hotline at 607.432.4855.

Opportunity House homeless shelter is open and fully operational. Persons needing emergency housing or eviction prevention services should call the Emergency Housing Assistance Program 24-hour hotline at 607.433.8318.

Remaining program offices are closed to clients; however, staff are continuing to provide services virtually:

  • WIC participants with questions or needing assistance with eWIC benefit cards may contact the program at 607.433.8071 or wic@ofoinc.org. Farmer's Market coupons are being mailed as part of regular phone appointments.
  • Building Healthy Families is fully functioning virtually.  Participants may email, call or text home visitors for general inquires and to schedule virtual home visits. To inquire about services or make a referral, call 607.434.9707 or leave a message at 607.433.8000.
  • Update (08.17.20) For the safety of our staff and the families we serve, Head Start will provide home visiting services for the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year starting September 10th. We will consider the guidance from individual school districts in the next few weeks to decide when and how to reopen each center. To inquire about enrollment, call 607.433.8063 or email hfay@ofoinc.org.  
  • Other programs are continuing to work remotely and may provide assistance with program-specific needs as they arise. Questions should be directed to 607.433.8000, where callers may leave a message requesting a return phone call, of ask_ofo_@ofoinc.org.

OFO recommends that the community continue to adhere to NYS State Department of Health recommendations to wear a mask; maintain 6 feet of distance in public; cover coughs and sneezes; and use proper washing techniques.

Individuals who are concerned they may have symptoms of COVID-19 should call the Bassett Healthcare COVID-19 response line at 607.547.5555.

Upcoming Events

Now through 09.30.2020 - 2020 Census: Respond to your 2020 Census online at MY2020CENSUS.GOV or 844.330.2020.  Household can self-respond online or phone option until September 30th. Census enumerators began in-person visits to home that have not self-responded on August 11th.

09.07.2020 - Agency Closed:  OFO will be closed in recognition of the Labor Day holiday.  The Emergency Housing and VIP shelters and hotlines are still available to those with a need.

Now Enrolling! Head Start is enrolling 3 and 4 year old children for the 2020-2021 program year.  Children must turn 3 years old by December 1, 2020 to enroll for the fall.  Centers are located in Cherry Valley, Cooperstown, Laurens, Morris, Oneonta, Richfield Springs, Schenevus, and Unadilla.  For more information, call 607.433.8055 or visit our Eligibility  page.
