OCTOBER IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

10.11.2021 - Agency Closed:  Opportunities for Otsego will be closed in recognition of the Columbus Day holiday. The Emergency Housing and Violence Intervention Program 24-hour hotlines and shelters will still be accessible to those with a need.

10.21.2021 - Wear Purple Day: Whether a shirt, skirt, tie, nail polish, or a mask, wear purple to show support for victims of domestic violence. Take a selfie or picture with family, friends, or coworkers and share it on social media with the hashtags #PurpleThursday #NYGoesPurple4DV #SpeakUp4Survivors #Every1KnowsSome1.

11.01.2021 to 11.05.2021 – Workforce Development Training on Building Science and Home Energy Efficiency Improvements:  Learn the basics of building science and energy efficiency improvements needed for entry into the workplace.  Successful attendees will receive OSHA construction safety and NYS Weatherization Directors Association certifications, work boots, jacket, a starter tool kit, and an opportunity to talk with local employers. Child Tax Credit

Starting July 15 and continuing through December 2021, the new Child Tax Credit in the American Rescue Plan Act provides monthly benefits of $250 per child between ages 6-17 and $300 per child under age 6.  If you’ve filed tax returns for 2019 or 2020, or if you signed up to receive a stimulus check from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), you will get this tax relief automatically. You do not need to take any action.  Families who did not file taxes last year still can access the benefit by using the IRS’s Child Tax Credit Non-filer Sign-up Tool. LEGAL NOTICE: The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) at Opportunities for Otsego is soliciting subcontractors for the following services to be completed at Peacock Manor Apartments in Norwich NY: Replace stairwell lighting; Replace office and common area lighting; Window replacement; Install rigid foam and new siding on the exterior of the building.

All interested bidders must attend a pre-bid meeting. The meeting will be held on October 8th 2021 at 10AM at 13 Brown St. Norwich, NY 13815. Please register for the meeting by calling 607.433.0444.

All Women Owned and Minority Owned Businesses are encouraged to attend.

Opportunities for Otsego reserves the right to reject any or all bids per approved policies and procedures. The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) is administered in New York State by Housing and Community Renewal (HCR). HCR receives funding from the United States Department of Energy (DOE), and Health and Human Services (HSS).

NOW ENROLLING! Head Start is now enrolling for 2021-2022 program year. To enroll children must be three years old by December 1, 2021. DON'T DELAY - Emergency Rental Assistance: Although the eviction moratorium has been extended until January 15, 2022, tenants at risk of eviction due to financial hardship caused by COVID should apply immediately for New York State ERAP funds. Assistance is also available for landlords. Get more information and apply through the online portal.
